remove aircon belt, start engine and see if the noise has gone.

right just had a llok at the car and i can hear a metalic sound around three k revs if it put my foot down coming from around the airbox (when sat in the car), just had a look under the boonet and it seems to be a roller down on the bottom of the block making the noise not the water pump any idea what it is??

if it was just the roller why would it sound like a rubbing bearing sound? are they hard to replace and if it went would it have a similar effect to the water pump going?

Because the rollers have a bearing in them.
If it goes, it could be a disaster.
Are you sure it's a cambelt roller?

are you sure you are talking about the cam belt, not the alternator belt?

tbh im unsure now, if you image looking at the engine side onfrom left to right (x14xe) you have three rollers on the right and the waterpump on the left, yes? well where the three rollers are its the bottom one, i thought this was on the same belt but maybe not

cambelt is behind that black bit to the right hand side of the alternator belt.
which uses more fragile plastic rollers you'll be glad to know lol
oh.... and water pumps are run off the cambelt aren't they?

that isnt actualy a roller, that pulley is attatched to the crank, theres no bearing in there. my advise would be to take off the altenator belt( the belt you can see without removing any covers) and run the engine. if the noise is gone then you have narrowed it down to components driven by that belt eg. altenator or pas pump. if the noise remains with the belt disconected then ur probs lookin at a cambelt noise so have the cambelt kit and water pump replaced. hope this helps.

tbh i cant remember wat socket it is to loosen the belt. but its a complete pig to completely remove the belt so just take it off from the crank pulley and move 2 1 side.

think it is just a 15 mm spanner needed to loosen the belt!

no on the tensioner, i think its the second pulley down in ur 1st pic. lever the bolt round as if you were doin it up and the tensioner should move round, slackening the belt.
