OK, got me new laptop now so need to install some top quality anti-virus software... any recomendations for me to acquire?

I used to use F-Secure on my old PC and had no issues, use Sophos at work

I like McAfee, it's much less interfeering than Norton.

http://www.tekheads.co.uk - you get can get an OEM version (the complete 12 month thing, minus box & manual) for less than £10's.

iirc, there is a free one called AVG (something like that) with full up to date protection for free. Heard about it on Radio 1.

Also, I can get Norton Internet Security 2006 free for 6 months, worth it in the interim?

I have used torrents and P2P for years with AVG and never had a serious issue.

It helps if you have Zone Alarm firewall, windows defender and other spyware programs such as Adaware and Spybot.

Norton IMO is a pain in the arse both to have installed and remove.

That's a good thing Robbo it just gets on with the anti virus part. Use other dedicated software as previously mentioned for your firewall and spyware needs

AVG is crap. Ended up having to format my PC even though I was running AVG. Mcafee is good. Never had a problem with that.

there is different settings in the config to what it does when it finds an infection, yours just isn't set up correctly. Ours here is fine if it fines anything it notifies then gets rid.

This is why McAfee is better.

Norton used to slow my computer to buggery. McAfee doesn't. McAfee is also a lot less intrusive.

I've never had a problem with my 'domestic' version, and neither has dad on his.

Steve - was this a version installed on a server? i.e. not a domestic version?

NOD32 is the best ive ever used.

Very non-obtrusive just sits in the background and does it's job.

How much is NOD32? Is it full anti-virus, firewall, pop-up, spam etc etc?
