is there any way i can pull this up to the bumper a bit more it just seems really low?

you could change the rubber exhaust mounts, powerflex do some and you can pick up a set of halfords own brand mounts quite cheap, they are stiffer and seem a bit shorter than the standard vaux ones.

will that bring it up a bit higher then i take it that the vaux back box is lighter then an aftermarket one?

yeah it should do, as you said the aftermarket backbox is heavier so hangs low on the std vaux rubbers so stiffer ones should do the trick.
or as Dan_c4rsa said, use zip ties on the vaux rubbers if you just want to hold it up higher.
