It's making a swishing noise since a couple of weeks and is parcial to a really loud whine occaisonally. I've taken it for a run on the local dual carriage way and seems to go away after a while. Am I right in saying the bearings in it are going?
Help please

You sure it's not the idler pully on the timing belt making the noise?

get a long screw driver and listen to the alternator. Might be something like tensioner or idler pulley making the noise! Also check the belt for damage.

Take the alternator belt off and see if the noise goes away. Mine used to make a racket when it was started in the morning and it was the cambelt pulley. If it still makes the noise without the belt then its not your alternator
