and its showing 11.40



ive order a new alternator as the battery wasnt being charged....


whats the lowest voltage it would need to be to start the car?

Voltage cant tell you whether it will start the car or not

You need to do an amp drop test. Take it to your nearest battery place and they will have a tester.

oh right,, i had the car running before used leads to start it, and the alternator was showing 0.02 v and the battery was at 11.50ish so i gathered it was alternator

what does it show on the battery with the engine running?

it gradually drops,, i had it running at just under 12v

and eventually the engine dies out,,


but if i turn it off at 11.60v and try turn it back on it wont start

sounds like no charge from the alternator. wether the battery is good or knackered you should still get 14v form the alternator.

The sound of the starter motor turning half a notch and then running out of power to actually turn the fly

but what im thinking is did i hold the multimeter in the correct place on the alternator, i may have presumed that it was due a bit of voltage showing on the screen

took battery off charge just now
dropped 12.09v -> 12.01v in about 30 seconds

yeah, i'm in gym from 6-9ish though ed..

but if mine doesn't turn up today before 6 you can come collect some cash and then pick it up tomorrow


took battery to local ats and they've tested the battery and its good..
