you need to stick a multimeter on the battery with the engine running mate and measure the voltage. Test it with nothing turned on at first then turn everythin on and measure it again, let us know the results and youll know if the alternator is ok or not

Alternator is working then, although like you said the loose belt won't be helping.

When the car is swaitche on though, it normally reads around 14.4V at the battery?

That battery doesn't sound good though, wouldn't surprise me if you have something draining it - do you get the voltage slowly dropping while the engine isn't running?

try it with the ignition off completely, keys out as well, then see if the voltage is dropping.

If it is, you've got a drain - then comes the fun of trying to trace it

i think i went thought something like this on a college test today it may help...

Tale the postive off the battery and recomplete the circuit with the probes of your mutimeter, turn the mutimeter onto current (i belive it's that one) Now dont start the engine on or anything no headlamps nothing at all...

Now if you belive something is at fault for example your boot light is staying on..

What you want to do is watch the mutimeter and get a friend to pull out fuses from your fuses board.

Pull out your first fuse, does the muti meter move at all? if not its that, put it back in and move onto the next one, do so until you or your friend see's the muti meter move.

When or if you find the fuse that moves the muti meter reading,

example its the fuse 12 look your at your haynes manual or on here somewhere i guess, and you will notice its the boot lamp fuse for example.

This was the answer for my college test i think of the top of my head hope it is some help to you
