Posting on here as i don't like the French....

My sister has a 206 cabriolet and recently the roof hasn't been going down.

Took it to a garage and they said it was the motor control unit and if we replaced it, it would work but they said they 'weren't 100% on this' so they suggested taking it to Peugeot to check as the part is £200+.

Therefore took it to Peugeot and they came back asking for 550+ to fix it all. Apparently there is no ground wire to the unit and someone has tampered with all the wiring in the past etc. so they will have to strip the car and re wire it all

Said no and brought it home. Had a look earlier tonight and too my amazement there is nothing up with the wires, they don't look like they have been tampered with and there is defiantly a earth wire as ive had them current things (insert technical word) and checked and there is current and an earth. So basically the French are lying to me?? Does this sound correct?

Sorry for the short essay. And if anyone knows about convertibles, your 2 pence would be appreciated.

A multi-meter is what you are thinking of.

It is all well and good saying there is an earth but it may not be at the relevant point.

The 'had a look' makes it sound as if the Peugeot monkeys may be correct to be honest that it has been tampered with. It's all well and good looking at something but if it has been apart and then put back together they will naturally not give a 'fixed' price incase it involves sorting someone elses fuck-ups.

If re-wiring the car at £550 quid you got off easily, I know of BMW charging people over £3k to fit a new loom.

P.S. I will 'take your sis for a ride' if she is fit. Pics please?

Send them me and I wil host!

TBH I own a french car which from the 3 I have owned have been the most unreliable sacks of shit I have owned but they pay for that because when they work they are better than any shitty Vauxhall on the twisties. The Frogs know how to build amazing hot hatches, I would take a 205 GTI/R5 Turbo/Clio wiliams/172/182 over any of the crap Vauxhall have answered them with.
