Hi,

I have a friend who's just bought a car (MG ZR) and the head gasket got replaced about 5k ago in the service history. If the head gasket is replaced what is the likelihood of it going again? or will it cope alright once its been replaced?

depends on the reason it went.
No reason it shouldn't be perfect again providing whoever replaced it checked straightness on everything before re-assembling.

Will be fine so long as it was replaced properly. Seeing as it's done 5k since it was replaced with no obvious issues it looks like it will be fine.

if you are really worried about headgaskets going, dont bother owning a car, theres no point selling a car just because the head gasket might go one day!

on these engines using the correct grade, high quality coolant is very important.

Everyone says that, but I ran my 1.4 K series metro about for ages with no water pump and a shagged rad.

Never went and never overheated

It doesnt say anything about skimming the head Is this a standard thing to do when the gasket goes? would garages normally do this?
