Noticed a prob with the Corsa on the way home from PVS.
It has a slight coolant leak somewhere and when it's up to temp you can see steam coming out of the bonnet a bit. Haven't located this hose yet.
Took it for it's first long run and it was completley fine the whole way to PVS an full speed etc.
I normally only run the car on mixed coolant. Before I left I put about a litre of still water in it and set off on my way. Driving on the A-Roads and at 60mph (I had no petrol lol) it was fine and didn't go over 92-95c which is normal.
When I found a Shell, I filled up and pegged it off to catch up with the others  Cruising at 80-90mph the temp guage was dead centre, which won't harm the engine I dnt think. I noticed it wasn't normal and backed off to 60-70 where the temp came back to normal.
Tried again, this time taking the pace up a bit to see what happened. At high speed the temp kept rising until I let it stop at 100c and brought it back down.
Ambient temp outside was around 25c has anybody heard of this prob before??

mine dont this, we thought the fan wasnt kicking in which it wasnt & then discovered my headgasket had failed & was left with a warped & cracked head.

more revs = more heat = higher temps.
the leak wont be helping things.

Check your connection to the temp sensor and also may be worth while replacing the fan switch for one that comes on at a lower temperature.
Dont bother with a cool stat they are shit

the fan shouldn't come on whilst driving anyway, so the problem is not the fan

probably is a dodgy stat, what rad are you using? if it's old could prob do with a flush out.

It was a 1.4 16v rad. Bought it last year when I did the conversion. Was brand new.
Would the quality of the coolant be an issue becuase I added the water? Or shouldn't that matter.
Going to try and find the leak and change the coolant over.

fix the leak and drain the system, flush it through and fill it with water.
water will run cooler than most coolants anyway. just use a good aditive such as Forte cooling system conditioner. will help it run a lot cooler during the summer.

the leak will be the most likely cause, as cause its not pressurised it will raise the boiling point of the coolant. the sytem works better under pressure.
would fix the leak and try a stat 1st

mine ran at 98 degrees whole way home
think the gauge is out though, fan cuts in, thats all i care

fix the leak and stick a cool running thermostat in it...
as dave A said the harder you drive the thing the hotter its gona get.
vauxhall engines get hot anyway they are a git in traffic..

my xe has always run hot dude if i turn it on from cold would only take 5 mins before fans cuts in lol bin like it for years now

I wouldn't use a cool running stat....if the engine was designed to run at 90degrees or whatever thats what it should be not 87degrees.

YEP, best stuff ive experienced has got to be the forte stuff, me and all my mates use the forte products now, proper quality gear which i can get at good prices aswell

The engine shouldn't have a problem keeping itself cool. Designed to run at a certain temp, so keep it that way.
I found my XE with a cool stat in was sluggish as hell for quite a while in a morning.

The engine has been running peferctly for the last 15k miles.
Waited for the weather to cool down again last night then Hit the motorway. Temps still rising when at full speed. Driving at under 3krpm and the temp drops from 100c(rising) back down to normal 92c.
Will get onto the leak again for the weekend. All coolant pipes were nice and hot, Rad felt warm.

Could the leak cause the system to fill with air?
Id flush the system once you find that leak.

I was thinking it could be an airlock in the system but after reading this I am not so sure  If it was an airlock it would be more iratic and not relate to the speed as much. I would get the leak sorted and go from there. Mine used to weep from where the rad fan switch sits in the rad is it dry there?

best thing to do is have the system pressure tested and fix any leak you find then take it from there.
