Could this be tappets (do I have any?) , timing chain er or anything else please ? This is my noise:

30k miles. I bought it 2 years ago with 23k on the clock and the sound has gradually got worse.

This is the 3 cyclinder engine so I guess it might not run as smoothly as a 4 cylinder but, still the rattling noise is getting quite bad.

Timing chain. Adjust the tennsioners or get a new chain.

Thank you - after removing the timing chain cover, it looked there was no slack in the chain so I will try the hyrdaulic lifters first.
