You don't run ECU's with carbs!

He will still need some sort of ignition system though, There are ECUs which only do ignition but you could do with speaking to someone who has done this before

as the xe smallblock doesnt come standard with a dizzy type head, u more than likely have to run ecu for the coil pack sender, but u can get standalone ignition systems on there own, and there not that deer

Whoever has fitted carbs to a C20XE will have had the same trouble as you even though it has a distributer, the ECU still controlled the ignition timing.

Dave A might be able to help you out if you give him a ring, sure he will have come across this before.

vacuum advance dizzy. thats what i had to do with my SEH to get my R1 carbs to work.

If you get a vacuum advance dizzy then you dont have to worry about having an ECU at all. Dont know whether it will go straight on in place of the coilpack, but you could try. You should be able to get one off a 1.4 or 1.6 8v if you can get one on.

I took mine off a 18e...havent run it yet but i know it works.
