Is there a certain way it comes of?
Whilst im at it I will replace the gear surround, can you get this from Vauxhall and if so how much is it?

You have to cut it off with a hacksaw, no getting around it.

You can't pull them off (or at least in my Corsa) even the Haynes manual says you have to cut it off, same with the handbrake sleeve.

Iv read in related threads that sometimes it works when heating them up?!
Does it not shorten the stalk when you cut it? So when you fit the new one its lower down?
Iv ordered a new surround of e-bay
Thanks for all your help so far!

What I did was take the whole stick out, put it in a vice and pull it, it comes straight off.

I did try heating mine with a hairdryer and also soaking it in hot water but it didn't help. Whacking it in a vice is your best bet if you can't pull it straight off, but getting the clip off (to remove the stick) and also back on again can be a bit tricky.

Mine just twisted off, took a lot of force but as soon as it moves just a little bit, it comes off very easily!
