Clearly 45's look good, but I'm skint, and more chance of getting a mint deal on good quality 50 profiles than 45's brand new, and nowhere does part worn 45's for cheap... so thinking of getting 50's all round.

I hear it'd be a slightly more comfortable ride, it's more cost effective, but is it worth losing the looks?

Talk me into or out of it I've got cav gsi alloys at the mo but might be getting some 6 spoke astra gls/cdx alloys, soft spoke things, like them - had them on my old car with 45 profiles on but the rim is only 5.5" wide so they kinda hung over a bit and looked even lower profile lol... maybe 50's on them would look ok?

its about 10mm bigger in tyre size so its hardly going to be that noticeable really

If you can afford them, get 45's, if you cant, live with 50's. Simple.

I always have 50s on 15s. I get them at a good price and they fill the arch better imo

You recommend anywhere local for tyres Daz? Also, you know any good places for decent part worns? Tried the one by AVR and the lad I know never has 45's in lol

you can tell theres alot of difference if you put the 45 and 50 profile next to each other..

i would personally go for a 45 on a corsa, look better and can go lower on them them (more clearance) but other reasons for the 50 profile is dont look out of place if car is highish, also adds to the comfort

I think I'll stick to 45 profile... Dropped on some wheels I'm selling straight on which is making enough cash to get some tyres brand new lol

Yeah fair difference, saw you earlier going up chaplin road had just been pick up some more wheels lol..

I might try a few more part worn places then go from there

The 50 profile would be a 3.5% greater rolling diameter than the 45 profiles.

EDIT: You would lose comfort not only due to the sidewall being smaller with the 45 profiles but mainly because the tyres air volume is lower.

No, the aspect ratio is 5 lower on the 45, so it is 5% of 195 on the radius, not the rolling diameter.

You quoted me as I was editting the wording of it.

I make the rolling diameter of the 50 profile to be 1758mm and the rolling diameter of the 45 profile to be 1698mm.

60/1698*100 = 3.53% larger diameter of the 50 profile over the 45.

(I editted it as the wording I initially put was misleading as it isn't reflective the opposite way, ie. if you removed 3.5% of 1758 it would give you 62.06mm)

Yes I know but that is only going to knock 5% off the radius ie. from the wheel centre to the outside of the tyre. It doesn't mean that it would reflect the same percent value on the rolling radius, ie. the circumference of the tyre.

For example.

The radius of the wheel is 15 x 25.4/2 = 190.5mm
Aspect ratio of the 50 tyre = 97.5
Aspect ratio of the 45 tyre = 87.75.

So the radius of the wheel and 50 tyre is 190.5 + 97.5 = 288.00
and the radius of the wheel and 45 tyre is 190.5 + 87.75 = 278.25.

To get the circumference you must take the diameter (double the above radii) then multiply by 3.142 to any differences are themselves being multiplied.

The diameter would be about 19.5mm difference as the aspect ratio knocks the figure off the radius.

Therefore that difference works out at about 60mm on the circumference of the tyre which I make to be in the region of a 3.5% increase in rolling diameter for the 50 tyre over the 45.

Thats all assuming that they keep perfectly round and don't sag under weight when stationary etc.

On the other bit of Chaplin Road off Belgrave Road is it Some knob was pissing about waiting to cross to the section I was on as you turned in so my multitasking abilities were lacking lol
