i know it's bad but i kept laughing at the way he made funny faces when they complimented him.

It really is incredible what some autistic people can do, when they lack ability in an area we would find normal everyday, but they always seem to excel in one particular area. My missus' sister has autism, been diagnosed with it since she was 3 and is now 8, but she has an incredible photographic memory, she can listen to a song once and know every word still 4 weeks later 
But anyway yea, I thought he was really good, fucking brave thing to do after 7 years as well, good on him

I work for the adults with learning disabilities team for Social Services for my local government so I know for an autistic person to get up on stage infront of all those people is amazing, let alone be able to sing like that

Yes. I hate this new "sob story" thing with the x-factor. Like that woman one year who was in a wheel chair. Unfortunate and all, but she couldn't sing and having to hear her harp on about how it was far more amazing for her than anyone else was downright iritating.
This man however, CAN sing and sing well at that. I think they'd have put him through regardless. And as was said earlier, for someone with autism to be able to get up and do that is tremendous.
Must say though, his style of singing was quite amusing. He sorta switched between a Josh Groban type of singing style(original version of that song) to more of a Westlife version constantly.
