I've run into a problem trying to fit new rear brake shoes on My Corsa B 1.6 Sport. In a nut shell, the only way I can get the drum back on is with a hammer, it's that tight a fit, obviously wrong. I've slackened the self adjuster 'bolt' off to the end of the thread and as far as I can tell, that's the only way to bring the shoes as close together as possible before refitting the drum. The bottom of both shoes rests on a fixed pivot point with no adjustment. The tops of the shoes are brought at close together by adjustment of the self adjusting 'bolt'. The pistons on the slave cylinder are resting on the internal spring as there is no hydraulic pressure in the system. The only other thing I would add is that I have cleaned the inside of the drum with an emery cloth flapper wheel on an electric drill and the lip is only very slight. Am I missing something here?
