whats the best primer to use on alloy wheels for the paint to stick. the wheels are rubbed down ive got filler primer and the paint doesn't seem to want to stick to it.
any suggestions?

I had this problem when i did mine....i sprayed over the filler primer with ordinary primer then the paint stuck fine!! Might just have been luck tho

right, i just sprayed onto the filler primer. i'll get ordinary primer tomorrow. cheers

get high build mate.
filler primer is for priming filler, it doesnt fill.

 didn't know that.
so i use filler primer on parts of the wheel that i use filler on, then high build to go over it and fill in little scratches and then paint on top of that and laquer?

Since when  ive used filler primer before filling in light scratches or pin holes before painting  but used a normal primer over it first before applying paint

Did you know this, or did you get it from my thread 
When i did mine i used etch primer (red can) on them, then used high build primer (blue can) on the fronts to remove some of the imperfections, then sprayed.

If they are baremetal you need etch primer.. UPol do a good one in a red can, halfords sell it.

yeah thats what i bought today, the red can etch primer. do the wheels have to be totally bare metal though?

sand back the wheels with 600grit if you go through to the metal use etch primer on those areas, as long as the existing paint is 'keyed' you can use normal grey primer then spray your colour onto that then lacquer.

will the etch primer work if i spray it on areas that still have some bits of paint on?

yeah will be fine but dont worry about covering the whole wheel with it as its not needed
