Would quite like to be able to watch stuff from 4oD etc through the tv rather than just on the laptop, what are my options? The laptop has a HDMI connection and the tv is also hooked up to the network and has netTV (which is a bit shit really).
Happy to go out and buy a long enough HDMI cable but only if I know it'll actually work. It's a Dell Studio 1535 if that helps? Is it worth trying wireless or just use HDMI?

It'll work fine on HDMI, just like connecting any other monitor to the laptop.

Is there such a thing as a HDMI-out port for PC's these days?
