I bought a little push to make switch from maplins that is rated a 1A at 250V AC.
I'm gunna put a 10A fuse on my boot popper in the MX5, would it be okay to just run that max. 10A (12V DC) circuit through that switch? So Battery > Fuse > Switch > Popper > Earth? Or do I need to use a relay?
Only reason I ask is because the contacts are tiny on the switch!

What's the current draw on the solenoid?
Pretty sure it'll be fine but best to make sure.

Sorry, missed the 10amp bit.
I'd use a relay personally. Not much of a pain to wire up.

1A at 250v is 250w
That's just over 20A at 12v.
Is there no way you can use a momentary OE style switch? Got to look better than a Maplin hobby thing.

Tis one of these:

I'm quite happy to wire up a relay, that the best bet?

Yep, as Ian says - it's the power that'll melt it, not amps, so It'll be fine.

Just thought the contacts on the switch were like tiny. Might relay it for piece of mind!

Wrong wayround Tom. Amps/current kill components.

Switch is rated at 20amp at 12v and solenoid has a10amp draw it should be fine.
But as I said, relay it for piece of mind.
Don't worry about the pins on the switch. 2.5mm mains cable can take 10amp at 230v

Still need a fuse too. 10 amp on the switched side, and whatever your relay needs on the switching side

I'll take the feed from the ciggy lighter (which has a 15A fuse) and stick a 20 or whatever on the relay
