Hi guys, just done a conversion to x16xe and everynow and again completely randomly the idle will shoot up to 3/4K and hold, mainly seems to do it when it gets hot, any ideas?

I've had a suggestion of possibly the cts sensor but wondered if anyone could either confirm this or give me other options, much appreciated,

Danny

cts or rocker cover gasket could be leaking or another gasket around the intake

Cts is possible, judging by other Vaux engines they're only usually a few quid too so that'd probably be the easiest start point

i've got a nearly brand new one on my old engine so will just pinch it off that, just rang up a local mobile diagnostics aswell as i've flashed eml and i've getting 15 - 20 codes before i got bored, so he's coming out on tuesday to clear the codes and see if anything else comes up, £25 so cant really complain but in the meantime i will swap that cts over

if the rocker gasket has gone it sucks air in causing it to rev up, any gasket around the top end for that matter. like i say ide say cts but check gaskets etc

Wrong tbh.

Open the oil cap, does it mess with idle? No.

Vac on the rocker?

Not up on the smallblocks but the rocker dnt create any vac, it'll be a breather.

20xes have a breather on the rocker and many have fucked hoses and run perfectly fine.

Still not convinced.

Its a load of crap, Taking the oil cap off would cause it to sit at 5000rpm then.

If you remove that breather it wouldn't do that much.

I know engines and I know baby xe's

Indeed. I ran my van without an oil cap for a few days by accident once. It was fine apart from oil splatter everywhere!

You could run an engine with nonrixker and it would work fine for a while

The long black pipe to the air filter? Wouldn't cause it to rev. Would have to be after the TB to effect it. Unless you mean the short rubber connecting pipe, then ignore me

well theres a slight blow in the lower inlet manifold gasket that we've just found but cant get it off as i've not got a deep 13mm socket to get one nut off, and where the oil breather goes into the long black pipe as AW06 describes was split so i've just plastic welded it together again for temporary, insulation tape didnt work, and put some sealent around inlet till i bring my deep socket home, fingers crossed it runs for now
