My mum and dads HP laptop loads up to the log in screen and then when u click on 1 of the user names (I have tried both) it just has a black screen with the mouse showing (you can also do a control alt and delete to get to the task manager)

Install windows 7. Fighting a loosing battle with vista, it's as bad as windows ME.

Just after the BIOS, tap F8 till you get a prompt for safe mode. If it works in safe mode it's probably a driver issue.

Try Last Good Confiuration in that list as well

cheers dudes, gonna give it to me mate to install windows 7........

the spec is

1 x HP 6720s Laptop Intel Celeron M 540 1.86GHz 1 x 1GB, 80GB DVD-RW WLAN, 15.4" WXGA (1280 x 800 resolution) Bluetooth, SD Card Reader Vista Home Basic.

Think it will be ok?!

Ram and processor aren't good enough, it won't run any slower than Vista though.

sweet, well if it doesnt run that well, ill get him to put XP on it.....vista is balls
