We are planning to have some spotlights fitted in our living room.
The problem is, like nearly every house in the UK the ceiling has artex (and it's quite deep in places). Would it be best to have a false ceiling fitted with plasterboard and whatever? Our electrician has said that a plasterer might not be able to skim over it - and there is also the potential asbestos issue as well.
Also, when I used to have my own flat I remember it had a control panel of some sort on the wall that could be programmed to dim/turn on or off certain spotlights, what is their proper name and are they quite expensive?
I'd be keen to hear from anyone that has been through this themselves, and be good if you had pics of your spotlight installs!

Get a big scraper and scrape the rough off the artex then a plasterer will do it no bother.

Very little if any asbestos in artex, too much H&S bullshit! Scraped all mine off.
