I have a REALLY bizzare problem going on, and really cant figure it out.

I have two ADSL lines, one held up by a modem then into the Draytek, the other DSL line straight into the Draytek.

I keep getting dropped internet connections, on both lines.
Uptime right now is around 7minutes.

Initially thought it was the router at fault, so bought a new router, exact replica (thought it was handy to have a backup anyway), and its still happening.

BT have tested the lines, both lines are good.
Microfilters have also be swapped.

The router is plugged straight into the switch, which all clients access directly.
Client default gateway is the routers IP address.

Ive pinged the router while the net went down and got the following results

192.168.50.123 is my IP address, the PC I ran the ping from.

From what I can see, the whole Ethernet switch was fine, only the router was lost.
The first router wasn't on a UPS, but the new one is and is still happening.

Anyone have any ideas? Im stumped

Had this is recently and i ended up going in circles attempting to test every potential scenario. Gave up after a few days, replaced the ageing Linksys with a 2920n and the connection has been rock solid for 3 months.

I assume you've tested a connection directly from the modem?

Personally i'd work off a single line and then work you way up the equipment chain (factory reset each device, setup accordingly, use minimum services and connecting directly to it from a PC/Mac/system) until it starts failing.

Edit - Obviously worth checking any firewalls; the usual and check cabling; make sure all equipment/systems/servers are clean (worms/viri causing excess traffic); i've heard poor configured MTU can cause intermittent connectivity and isolate any new gear on the network.
Could also run an analyser on the network and see if that highlights anything.

Its been happening for a few days (outside of easy holidays that I can test), and appears to be more stable at night.

Is there a switch anywhere in that or are you straight on the draytek?

Have you isolated it so it's just a PC connected to the draytek and there's no other equipment anywhere else?

Could be a PC that's only turned on during the day that causes it.

IP conflict/dodgy switch/dodgy NIC etc.

Also, from the router stats does the ADSL drop or is the router restarting?

We have 2x 48 port switches, with an 8gb link aggregation between the two.
Have tried connecting to the other switch but haven't tried going in only from a single PC.

Two things I'm also considering; there's an inherent issue with the draytek and that firmware (although we have the latest FW and I can't recall upgrading for some time), and thus the replacement router us exactly the same, or there's a fault at the exchange end and both our lines are connected to the same hardware at the exchange end.

I can't recall getting such detailed logs from the drayteks, but will check this.

Are the 48 port switches managed or unmanaged? Seen similar issues resolving around STP and flapping ports before.

Also worth setting up a continuous inbound ping to your router to monitor if your actual outbound connection goes when this happens

The top screenshot has both. In that screenshot all have been up for 6:45. If it had dropped the pings in that timeframe I'd probably look elsewhere to start with.

Its been up for 14 hours, but as mentioned above, seems fine during the hours of people not being at work (it maybe a little early for that to be a full conclusion).

Its now been up for 14hours, no drops.
Im not going to mess with anything and see if it is only happening under heavy traffic.

As mentioned, process of elimination, single pc then add devices as you work back through the network, Static or DHCP network?

Looks like the router is continually rebooting.

Ive searched the draytek forum and quite a few other people have complained about the same happening with the 28xx series.

On one website, someone suggested the firmware has a memory leak, which might explain why its fine during the night of no use and only reboots during the day.

When we swapped over the old router to the new, we exported/imported the config.

we've just factory reset the router and building it up from scratch.
If its still the same, next approach will be a over the top firmware update again (its already on latest), failing that a call to SEG.

after the above, its still be happening.

Good News! though, just got off the phone to SEG (Draytek), who confirmed there's currently a problem with 28xx series router, when a particular device connects to it wireless, will reboot the router.

They're sending out a (yet) unreleased firmware version which fixes this issue.

Do you know what firmware/ device that causes it? Would be handy if I ever see it.

I think it relates to 28xx series and we had the latest firmware. Im not sure how far the bug backdates to earlier versions of firmware.

I actually read something about a nexus 7 on another forum, but didn't take much notice of it.
Im not aware of anyone in our office with a nexus 7, so probably isn't limited to that.

I've not seen that particular problem but probably don't have a nexus 7 on any of the ones we have out.
