Hello all, right basically 7 months ago I rung vauxhall up to order a full service kit and the best oil type for my corsa b 1.4 sport they say is 10/40 semi syth now the engines are getting older they require a thinker oil was 5/30 semi syth. Anyways now due to the weather the oils at its thickest viscosity and now on a cold start the tappets, tap real loud then lubricate after a minute but also the tappets started gradualy tapping more since the service just taken it as general wear and tear so I've been speaking to a few garages to get different opinions and there telling me to change the oil to 5/30 fully syth because it'll help quieten the tappets down and help get around the engine quicker so basically does anybody else use 5/30 full syth and have no probs or what's the best oil you think?
And has anybody done a powerflex front end kit does it really make much difference?
Thanks all Matt

If the tappets are now worn slightly thinner oil can make it worse and really from 5w to 10w ain't a big jump really and fully or semi synth won't matter either all Xerox lumps tend to tap a bit

I had 5 30w fully synthetic in my x16xe for approx 6 months, never done any damage but upon changing back to 10w 40 semi this week ive noticed the engine is alot quiter, the 5w 30 I drained off was like water at temperature. If anything the older/more mileage the car the thicker the oil.

So would my best bet to try 1 of the hydraulic lifters addatives to put into the oil? To help stop the tappets. What's started me off is that I've got a friend who's not long got x14xe and its so quite on engine side yet its done another 14thou more miles but that's running 5/40 semi syth castrol oil, its the only thing that let my car down really

Its up too you mate but id stick too the recommended 10w 40 semi, the x14xe and x16xe are notorious oil burners anyway. I was forever topping up with 5 30w. Maybe ur engine has been thrashed alot more than your mates.

Right I've tested something now that might solve my problem. I've left the oil to get to bottom of dipstick and while she's running I've topped it back up and its dead quite, oil pump on way out maybe?
