You will have to pay - but they will extend your free AA cover for a second year if you have it serviced by them (but its only the standard roadside fix / recovery to a garage service). It also helps with certain types of 2nd/ 3rd year warranty claims if you've had the car serviced by an authorised dealer. e.g. if your engine has a problem , but you can't prove its been serviced properly, with the right oil used, etc. then they could try and get out of their warranty liabilities. Its something to think about if you're only saving a few quid!
