A 1.6l 16v or a 2.0l 16v from a Calibra or a Cav.
They provide the best return on the money that they cost - ie more BHP per £. The're anything from £1500 to £2000.
You can also do carbs, thottle bodies and a chip.

(just to clear my other post up, you get the 1.6 from a Corsa GSI or Sport, but most people if they do it go straight for the 2.0l.

best way to make a 1.2 16v quicker = drive it off a cliff.
for the price you pay for cams n fitting for a 1.2 u cud probs get a 1.4 16v engine
seriously, tuning a 1.2 16v is pointless dont bother

£ for bhp wise, the 1.6 or 2.0litre is by far the best.
1.6, 106bhp from what, 65-70bhp for about £1000. 2.0litre, 150bhp from 65-70bhp = £1500. Thats a lot of BHP per pound!

being a corsa c, engine transplants is not really an option, so hard to do apparently. As for possible mods, induction kit, exhaust, chip, reprofiled cams, port polish etc etc
I managed to get just under 100 bhp from my 1.2 sxi, proven on a rolling road twice too. I learnt from my mistake though, tuning a 1.2 sxi isnt worth it, save the money mate and upgrade to a newer more powerful corsa later on. Whatever you do, good luck mate

read this
http://www.deirdre69.freeserve.co.uk/corsa_files/sxi/throttle.html
drilling the airbox and a k&n gave me increase from 55 at wheels (75fly) to 62 wheels (about 84 fly). And its noticeably, yet people stil lsay, no i'm imagining it. Optimax makes it run better, won't say faster as the same naysayers will stone me. If you search google, for optimax and power gains, apparently shell has documentation it gives a few hp on vectras and astras and other cars, so also the odd extra hp on a corsa. The fuel if apparently 'thicker' the rest is too scientific for me. Bring on the arguments.

optimax is 98ron, and just burns hotter than normal unleaded, inlet modifications to corsa's give good power gains...

Shame they don't make a Mantzel Power box. Velos do inlets/ plenums for 1.4/1.6 maybe they could adapt one for a 1.2 !?
The power I gained, was told I could get an extra 5 bhp wheels with a Dastek set up. Then I'd have roughly 90 at the fly. If you imagine the cost of tuning to 90 bhp and buying another new 90 bhp car (let alone a 1.4 Corsa C). Expense ain't too bad.
But.......a larger engine would be good idea. I don't think the 1.2 is as untunable for design reasons but more for parts availability.
Total cost for extra 15 bhp flywheel is 500 quid.
Any more power will cost you, as mentioned.
