as you prob know u cant close the ashtray when uv got something plugged into the lighter. And as iv now got a mini fridge, i wanna have it plugged in nearly all the time. So i'm thinking of repositioning my lighter, perhaps under the glovebox or somehwere, and having all the wire for the mini fridge neatly hidden. I'm thinking i just unplug the wiring from the lighter, chop the lighter out of the ashtray and repostion it elsehwere (maybe extending the cable a bit) Anyone else done this? or are ther are other alternatives? cheers

How about getting a socket doubler or tripler from halfords and wiring it directly, would be much easier and less messy

No you would cut the ciggy plug off the doubler/triper and wire it directly to the battery (fused of course )

it would be simple! Buy a new cigaratte lighter from Maplins or where ever. Pop the exiasting one out of its holder and disconnect the wires from the back of it. Cut theses wires and attach them to the ones on the new ciggy lighter. Obviously with some length of wire you can put the new one anywher in the car

Fook all that, why not just wire the thing in properly, Y do you need the ciggy lighter connection for power? Why not tap off the battery with a relay hooked to the ignition live? It doesnt make any sense, just wire it in permanently...

Why not just tap into the ciggy lighter wires, they are already switched by the ignition as well as fused... just get a set off 12 volt connector from maplins and replace the fridge connector and tap off the ciggy with the other connector...
Tha way you keep your ciggy lighter where it is, you can close the tray and you can still unplug the fridge whenever...

You can indeed, you can just run wires from the socket doubler/tripler and piggy back them off the existing wires on the ashtray cig lighter.

rite, so i cut off the lighter attacthemtn off the tripler. Then how do i piggy back the wires? Do i simply make a cut in the wires then ram the triplers wire and the original wire together and solder?

Thats called tapping into them, which you can also do and it would be fine dont forget to get the positive and negative correct though!
