Have you phoned Virgin and had them run a speed test?
Im paying £35pm for 20mb connection. It was slow so phoned them up and complained. It's now rapid!

Colin - which NTL modem do you have?
Alot of the older ones are packing in recently after a few changes were done Uk wide. My mates in Swansea all had their broadband pack in at the same time with slowness and random disconnects and they were all given new modems to sort it.
If your modem is under warranty, find as many DC adapters as you can and plug them into the modem and blow it up to get a new one.

I hate BT and will never go with them again, hence why I use '3 mobile broadband' now. No complaints at all, even works on xbox live (way better than vodafone mobile BB too).

Could try Bulldog. While thier CS is not great they have always fixed any problems I have and sorted the couple of billing issues i had.
On ADSL2+ they will put thier own line if if they need to but it does mean paying for a phone line too.
For me very good speeds 13Mbit+ and amazing bandwidth Costs me £35pm all in
