Unless the cable was faulty it really doesn't.

Basically I need to buy :
1x 50" TV
1x 26" TV
1x BR player
26" is for the bedroomk & needs to have freeview built in.
50" will be downstairs & will be running the BR player & hopefully (depending on my conning my old man) a BOSE acoustimas 10 surround sound system. I'll probably end up getting Sky at some point as well but not in any rush - ive lived without it up to now!!
It would be nice to get the 3 above items for around a grand!!
Additionally - Ive got a 32" LG LCD, around 2.5yrs old & a top notch Alphason floating stand I could maybe sell to add to the kitty. Dont expect to get much from it but it cost me £800 for the TV & £300 for the stand back then...................Think i'd be able to sell it for a few notes, its all as new!!?

Samsung 50" TV
26" Samsung TV
Blu-ray player
That's £1,010.
Oooooor you could get a PS3 instead of a standalone player...

As John said, unless the old cable was faulty then it would have made no difference what so ever! It's been physically proven countless of times, avforums (just one resource) have loads of articles about independent companies who tested hundreds of HDMI cables and couldn't find a difference that would improve picture or sound quality. And there's never been solid testing that has proven that a HDMI cables can make a visual/audible difference.
It's purely snake oil, a placebo.
Only when you need cable that is 30-50m should you start worrying about the quality of the cable as it can cause issues for the error correction.
If you were talking about an analogue signal then cable can certainly effect the output, although it's still marginal and often debatable whether you'd notice the difference.
Colin - does it need to be a 50" for the lounge? As you could pick up a honking 42" G10 for the same price as the Samsung.

+1 with the PS3. Has the ability to be updated to any blu-ray feature but lacks internal DTS HD de-coding.
