Cheers for the advice guys. Minds made up, i'm going for a 50", if I can get a slim bracket so its close into the wall aswel it shouldn't look as obtrusive.

go for a 50, the bigger the better! my mates got a 50 in his lounge which is a bit smaller than yours but his is mounted in the corner, at first i was like woah thats massive, then when you wath it for a bit its spot on

Exactly... they soon "shrink" on you.
My mate who has an old square 28" CRT TV still thraps over our 50 when he's round, but I got the urge for a bigger one within a month of having it.
If you're only after a flat mount bracket, Grax are quite cheap.. think they charge about £17 for them and they're very strong and sturdy

My parents have a 50" in their conservatory (where they spend most of their time) but it is slightly bigger than our living room and thinking about it, that looked huge at the time but just looks normal when I go round now.
My mates just fitted at 32" to his wall with what he said was a 'slim' bracket and it looks brilliant, really tight to the wall, said he had a bit of bother with the cables but was worth it. Ideally i'd want one of them as our current one sticks out about 2 foot

Well after hours of researching on various websites including AVForums and visiting lots of shops, I finally chose a TV.
I originally had my heart set on the LG LE4500 (42" LED priced at £499 in Currys but can be had for £400 on the net) so went to a few different places to view it, but was massively left down. Next to a Samsung LED it was like watching SD compared to HD even after playing with the settings, so came away empty handed. The Samsung LED in question was an extra £250 and so out of my price range.
Went back to the research and discovered that the Samsung 40C580 (non-LED version of the one I’d seen) gets excellent reviews and that the LED version is actually let down by clouding due the backlighting which affects the black levels. Everyone recommended the non-LED Samsung, so back to the shop to view it and can honestly say I was even more impressed. We ended up buying from Richer Sounds with the 5 year warranty.
Got it home and set it up, tuned the free view in and picked up all channels including 1-5 in HD (strange as the free view website says we won’t be getting HD in our area until August) and setup the built in media sharing/streaming which works perfectly including mp4/mkv files. The preset settings were good but too bright for my liking, to the point where it was so bright it made me squint slightly when viewing it. Using some settings found on AVForums the detail is awesome, skin tones are realistic and blacks are very deep (apparently similar to plasma level).
Had a quick go on Black Ops in game mode (which reduces input lag), the main thing that impressed me on this was the sound, I could hear detail that never came through on my old set, like the high pitched whine when you throw the semtex was crystal clear and somehow sounded like it was coming from behind. Aside from that the picture was stunning.
Id definitely recommend this TV for those looking to buy one in the sales and urge you to think twice about splashing out the extra money for the LED variant or at least view both before deciding if the extra money is worth it. Sorry about the long post but thought it might come in handy for people looking at buying a new TV in the near future.

just got the LG 4500le 42' led for my bedroom, good tele and they knocked me 20 quid off a comet.

Its a nice looking TV, and I would have preferred 42" over the Samsung 40".
Its £430 I think at 123electrical + 5% cashback.

I'm not critising the LE series at all, infact my last two 2 TV's have been LG and I was fully prepared to get a another, hence going out to buy the LE4500. Its just my personal opinion on seeing the TV's together in the the both Currys and RS displaying the same source was that the LG looked washed out and 'blurry' in comparison, although nethertheless, still a great picture.

never go off feeds in the likes of currys
they tune them to displaty betetr pics for models they want to sell
also the lighting doesnt help
Only thing against Samsung is the panels although i believe since sony and Samsung ventured together opening a panel factorythe panels are much better#
I have 2 sony's and would not buy any other make at the moment - the pictures are outstanding

I didn't make any decisions based entirely on the picture in the stores although you have to make some of your decision based on that as its not like you can take each one with you and test it in a home environment. I reset the settings on all the TV's I was interested in and ensured the source was the same, also did this in a few different stores.
Sony make some amazing panels, the mrs parents have a Bravia and its stunning but they never watch any HD media at all

Plus the plasma's use a lot more power than LCD and (more so) LED's iirc.

Picking the Saumsung up after work, just joined the VIP club (if I don't get the voucher in time i'll use it for something else when moving into new house!).
On a side note, they tried to get me to buy the Sony on saturday and seemed bemused that I didn't want it

my living room is a similar size to yours and i have a 42''. it's perfect imo.
any bigger and my eyes would hurt, any smaller and i would hav to put my contacts in to see.
