puts me in a predicament tbh as half of you have said cv joint and a few others have said clutch and gearbox just abit baffling as to how a cv joint can cause so much trouble lol

Sounds like the diff to me, i blew up the diffs in 2 F20 boxes. It just felt like it jumped out of gear, tryed reverse it made a grinding noise and moved a little then nothing. Took the cover off the bottom of the box and the planet gear landed on the floor. lol

that done mean nothin though as some times the clutches have defects which could cause it to break up

Could be clutch, diff, CV or shafts.
Lack of a bang indicates clutch to me.

Yea nor did mine the first one was due to abuse, but second one i was just pulling out a junction then just rev'd as if it wasnt in gear. Just sounds very similar to what happened too mine.

it started other night on moptorway and then tonight just as power was put ddown just finished it off so basically could be m0re than likely the clutch ? if so been told 1.2 clutch fits on and is lighter so revs faster is this true ?

Ah well at doesnt sound like the diff then usally it very sudden doesnt get worse over time, could be the friction material has come away from the friction plate. No idea if the 1.2 one fits.

when my clutch went it had somehow chewed up 3 of the 4 springs that are on the friction plate and the one that was left had the smaller spring from inside it missing lol

Doesn't sound like the CV to me. My x16xe absolutely destroyed the inner CV on mine (spat its internal parts out and snapped the end off) and I was still able to drive it.
Clutch sounds more like it to me

Sounds to me like the splines on one of or both your driveshafts at either end has worn down to nothin.. Just take your driveshafts out and I bet at least one of the 4 ends has no splines left on it
