I think it doesn't have an LED because they couldn't micro drill into the stainless steel chassis very easily, to make it glow like a Macbook Pro...

You just install it and it works. I did it with iOS 4.0 last year without having to be L33T or anything.

However the 5 with the A5 chip will

The difference in the screen between the 3GS and the 4 is night and day.
