ive got a P4 2.4 533 and i runs games fine but mainly becoz im running a geforce fx5600 256 and kingstone 512 ddr 400 on a gigabyte board. its more to do with the speed of memory and grafix than the processor. id personaly go for a middle range amd like a athlon xp2600 or xp2800.

Get yourself a DFI LanParty NFII-Ultra B Motherboard, and an AMD Athlon-XP 2600+ Mobile..
Then crank the FSB to 235 & the multi to 11, and 2.6GHz baby Yeah!!
That be my lil beasty running there! And I've also put a good few P4 systems to shame with the results I get from benchmarks.
