when i did mine. I left he car over nite so i knew the coolant was cooled etc, then i undid the bottom hose of the radiator and then obviously all the coolant started coming out. I opened the expansion tank cap and stook a hose pipe in there and just flushed the system through with water until the water coming out of the pipe i'd disconnected was clean then left it running clean for a minute or too so it got a good flush.
I bought some anti freeze from haldfords and mixed that up with water as it indicated on the contianer and stook in a bit of rad weld too for good measure. i also check all the pipes ad jubilie clips etc were secure before i filled it all back up.
When filling up you are best to fill to the max indication then set the car running for a bit witht he expansion cap off so the coolant has time to circulate in the system and so it cna disperse any air locks then u may find it has dropped below the max mark and may need topping up again.
WARNING dont rev the engine with the cap off the water will pump like a fountain out of the open expansion tank! LOL
After all this i also left it running for a while and made sure the cooling fan still came on etc, this is not essential but is good for piece of mind.
Hope this helps, i'm not saying this is the exact by the book way of doing it but its the method i used and have had no probs touch wood! LOL

Coolant change is supposed to be at 40k or 4 years, whichever is sooner.
