Ive just bought a Corsa with a Redtop 20XE engine.
I dont know the best type of oil for it or the type of spark plugs.
Should I bother with new leads? etc etc.
Its in a 1.4gls N reg Corsa. Its using the normal fuel filter so I would like to replace that but were is it?
The engine was from a 93 Cavvy and has 100K on it.
Any help would be great.
As ive only ever had Fords I dont know th best place to look and I dont fancy buying 2 haynes manuals.

10w30 semi synth should do ...

new leads should not be nesc.... if your not having problems with ignition.

spark plugs... dont bother with overly expensive multi tip'd things... just get what is recommended in motor factors books etc

10-40w semi as for the fuel filter its under the car on the drivers side about 6" from the rear wheel arch. jack the car up and you will see it the clamp has 1 bolt/screw undo that drop the filter down and disconect it but de-pressurise the system first.

How would I de-pressurise the system Im a bit worried about taking the hoses of either end, would I need to clamp the hoses as wouldnt the petrol pee all over the place?

I ended up with 15w40 in the end as thats what the little Halford charts said(and i couldnt remember what was said here) for a 2L 16V Cavvy engine but it sounds a little noisey.
I might give it another oil change at the end of the week. Is 15w40 ok or really bad for it in some way?

thats why you de pressurise the system, so that petrol doesnt spill out, just take out the fuse iirc...

I would'nt use 15w40 mate, its a bit thick for a 16 valve engine. 10w40 Semi synthetic is right for that engine.

Nothing to drastice though yeah?
I know it wont keep spilling out as It wont be pumped out.

I think I'll stick some 10w40 in on the weekend with a new filter again.

Egg cup??!! It was a fair amount that landed on my hands/driveway, probably about 1/4 of a pint or there abouts. Not to drastic though, I couldnt re use the screw again though as it was rusted to fook so it tightened with cable ties now.
Ive also just bought some 10w40 and a new oil filter for tomorow after work as the 15w40 in there now isnt recommended.
Thanx for the help
