i have some fox 5 spoke wheels evo 1 i believe in my garden!

i fancy giving them a go at spraying them black!

ive got nothing to lose really!

sooo sand them down til smooth!

prime

spray

laquer?

That's usually how it's done. Filler any little dings or holes too.

indeed.

tis what i did to mine.... although i didn't prime them... just made it nice and rouch with sander (some numpty had already tried spraying them) and gave it a couple of base coats of black, then metallic black on top (which is real thin so comes out smooth) then laccuer.... did it last september, cleaned them with a brush yesterday (car washing brush with hose pipe attactched) and the paint still holds on real well, none has cracked or flaked off

ok.. so what would i need to buy?

only prob is the wheel's still have the tyres on

yeah if i let the tyres down...

what grade of sandpaper would i need?
and will any primer and laquer do?

i used my sander on 80 grit, then normal primer, paint and laquer

I'd use alloy etch or zink etch primer my self, its designed to bite more into metal then normal primer

Get a roll of masking tape, and mask up as close to the rim as possible no the tyre, then put newspaper over this (make sure that none of the tyre can be seen) then tape it down. Also wrap some masking tape around the valve too
