my car is always making a humming noise when im driving and i have been told it might be a wheel bearing? How can you check if it is and what happens if it breaks? also how much is it to have repaired? thanks

aint much to have them repaired first thing it to jack the car up and check for play in the wheel and spin in to to see if it makes a noise

to check the rear ones jack the car up and see if theres and play (movement) in them. bearings are about £8 each do both sides aswell if ones going the others on its way out
you may just be able to nip the rears up if there not much play but it worth repacking them with grease while your at it
front bearing are a bit more of a P.I.T.A
If a bearing fails your know about it alsorts can happen an it can/will cost you a fortune to sort it

in theory if it like all fell apart violently and the centre nut came loose the back wheel could come off but i dont think the front can

I had a rear bearing cease and snap off at 30mph. I change them at the slightest noise now

yeh i think im going to change them cos its a really loud noise its making so im going to do both of them be on the safe side

front new one to be packed in for my MOT was £60.
whilst on subject of wheel noises i've got a "squeaking" coming from back drivers side when going slow... whats this gonna be? its more like eek eek eek not a continuous eeeeek. head a veccy with same problem behind me one lol
