I have a JL Audio e1200 Monoblock Amplifier and 2x JL Audio 12" Subs (12W3v2 are the subs)

When I have headunit on half volume they are fine, but once I go past that they cut off and the red protect light comes on. When I had 1 sub in it has never done this in the last 2 years. And it still works fine now with just one sub. Here's what the manual says on the Red Protect light:

quote:
1. If the red Protect indicator lights steadily (without flashing), the amplifier has exceeded its safe operating temperature. This causes the amplifier to shut off. When the amplifier's temperature drops to a safe level the Red Protect indicator will shut off and the amplifier will return to normal operation

2. If the red protect indicator flashes intermittently, the protection circuitry has detected a short circuit or a dangerously low impedence connected to the amplifier outputs. Connecting the speaker outputs to an imperdence lower than 2Ohm will cause this protection mode to activate.

My protect light comes on when i turn volume up. Could this be because the is too much resistance building in some wire somewhere?

I have wired the subs each into the amp, (amp has two +ve and -ve out puts) - would it be better to wire them to just one output and wire the subs in series?

It's starting to annoy me now - is there anything I can do to solve this, I really dont wanna fork out for a new amp

Have you checked all the cables, particularly the ground wire

yeah the ground is fine, it works perfect with one sub wired in

here's the spec of amp and subs

Amp

Sub

I'm maybe thinking the amp can't handle the two subs

one option you have is to wire the subs like this

and use an amp giving about 600W RMS at 2 ohm

or get a 2 channel amp which gives 2x300W RMS and wire the subs to show 4 ohm

There are two positive terminals and two negative terminals but only one channel, the reason there are four terminals is to make it easy to connect two subs,

if you wanna stay JL something like this would be good

a bit too much power but not loads too much
