What bits will i need to swap over from the old head to the new one ?

Obviously my Dbilas inlet and all the bits attached to that....

Fuel rail ?

Cam's if there not attached to the new head ?

Any plugs etc i will need to swap over ?

Im getting a new headgasket kit with the head im getting so i presume that will have the new gasket's included ?

Thanks Rob

all gaskets, stem seals etc will be in the head gasket kit, all ancillaries will need to be swapped and if budget will allow do the rollers, cambelt and waterpump whilst its in pieces.

take the inlet off as all one piece inc fuel ral etc, saves time

Im pretty sure he said that it has new seal's etc in it ready to fit on, but how time consuming is it changing valve stem seal's because if its a 15minute job i may aswell but brand new ones in

How long roughly would you say to swap a head over, expierenced mechanic will be doing it at my house, a day be enough ?

a day should be fine, its got lots of other fiddly jobs associated with it, i'd get a pro to do stem seals rob, last thing you want is one coming unseated, are you getting it pressure tested/skimmed etc before fitting ?

a day should be enough, book figure is 10 hours i think.

inlet manifold and dblias should come off in one go as riley says.

cambelt kit maybe a thing to think of changing if not in a while.

maybe new hose clips if there rusted as you dont want hosses popping off.

nothing i can think of apart from that.

Its the head off Dave A, he said its all flat etc, the head has only done 13k so ill just leave the current seal's in instead then, the guy that is doing it has been a fully qualified mechanic for three years

get the head checked for being flat rob, i've done 2 heads and always had them checked regardless 15-20 quid spent there could save you an absolute fortune later

Oooooo ok, i think Dave said he was going to take it somewhere and get it checked for me first, anything common that goes wrong ?, the guy is a nissan mechanic so doesnt have a world of knowledge about what to look for on a vauxhall etc..

- undo headbolts on your head
- undo exhaust manifold
- undo coolant hoses
- remove wiring loom and fuel rail
- remove head from car
- swap over everything that unbolts (dbilas, thermostat, water gallery thing, cams, pulleys, injectors etc)
- fit everything onto the new head
- refit new head to engine
- tighten up headbolts
- fit all water pipes properly (dont do a marriott)
- refit exhaust manifold
- refit fuel rail and wiring loom
- fire her up and leave to idle for 5-10minutes to let oil circulate nicely, will probably tap like fcuk at the start

Thanks Mr Haye's, ill try and work through that as a guide, im not sure what im actually getting with the head, im sure Dave said some SBD metal roller's, not sure if its coming with standard cam's or what...

He just said it was ready to fit straight on.

TBH i wouldnt follow my list, my car/engine has been away for coming upto 10 weeks now

but thats what i'd do

labelling is the sensible way to do it, but nowhere near as fun as finding random wires and hoses that apparently have nowhere to go
