Seeing as my petrol tank has 15more litres in than it shows will my car cut out once it goes into the red or will it continue to run?

Thanks

If you know you still have 15 litres left, it will run.

It won't cut out just because the gauge is on the bottom.

I know i have, when my tank is full it shows 35litres, going to sort the float out today.

Any idea of how the float is connected?

On novas the float is similar to a ping-pong ball on the end of some wire rod. It could be that your petrol gauge is faulty so might be best to measure the resistance of the sender and compare it to what a working one gives.

Was in the petrol tank today, slid the float off the fuel pump and connected it all up and put the float to what would be maximum and the fuel gauge showed about 42litres - So the gauge and float work fine.

After i had done this i put the float back onto the pump thing and put it all back together thinking it may work now but it still shows an incorrect reading.

Why is this?

Shrugs - if you know how many miles you can roughly get to a tank, there shouldn't be a problem as the car will keep running, you just need to know when to fill up. You shouldn't let your tank completely run dry anyway as it fucks the fuel filter up.
