I was wondering if there was a performance gain by placing the swap file on a seperate partition on the same HDD as the O/S? I was reading an article on MS, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314482

And it states

"
To enhance performance, it is good practice to put the paging file on a different partition and on a different physical hard disk drive. That way, Windows can handle multiple I/O requests more quickly. When the paging file is on the boot partition, Windows must perform disk reading and writing requests on both the system folder and the paging file. When the paging file is moved to a different partition, there is less competition between reading and writing requests.
"

Worth it?

You only get the speed increase if you use two physical drives. Two partitions on the same drive won't be any faster.

I've never noticed any difference even on different drives.

Ian, the quoted area, does that make sense at all? says it is quicker as the drive does not have to jump about so much in the system partition when read-writing

Just upgrade to Vista and use ReadyBoost to move your swap file to a USB memory key
