put a new belt on and see if it locks up when turning by hand.

the head will need a refurb, valves etc due to them hitting the pistons. Might have damaged your pistons as well, depends. Would be cheaper to buy another engine if it's only a 1.4 16v

forgott to mention its an 8v does that make a difference in what might of happened to then engine ?

try beardy's suggestion. If you can't tun it over, don't bother with it. 8v won't make a difference, just less valves to replace

u might be lucky, think 8vs have clearance so valves might not hit pistons.
