Will my Dell machine have a spare AGP slot?
I can't tell you the exact model as i'm at work, but it's a recent one

doubt it most only have 1 AGP slot and they are dated now PCI E has overtook it.

All I want to do is buy a Graphics card, but right now
So are you saying it will have an AGP slot  If so, then what would be using it? Dell graphics, etc is on-board is it not?

If its less than 18months old itwill be using PCI E
If its older and has an AGP slot then the only thing thast will use an AGP slot is a graphics card, really need amodel so i can have a look at the spec tbh mate

Yes it means look for a PCi express graphics card and NOT an AGP one

If a PCI express card fits in a PCI express slot it'll work.

are you sure it even has an AGP slot? if it has onboard video, chances are it wont have one at all

It doesn't have an agp slot, it has a pci express slot as above, if it is the system he thought it was.

If you want to get a graphics card through Dell it's pretty simple. Go on thier site, click 'Upgrade My Dell' or whatever they call the link now, put your service tag number in which is on a sticker on the side of the computer - if it isn't then there is a tutorial on there on how to find it. Then they will only list the graphics cards that will fit your PC. If you want to buy it from another company then phone up Dell and tell them your service tag number then they will be able to tell you what kind of slot you have.

I was wanting to run a dual-monitor setup.
I've acquired another 17" TFT the same as mine so I thought why not. I was just going to buy a cheap 2nd hand graphics card as opposed to going through Dell (cheap as it may be).

May aswell go for new seeing as you can get a dual head AGP graphics card for about £40 these days.
