Rite lads,

My 2.2DTi Vectra has a problem with the clutch. The clutch itself is fine problem is if the car is left over night, the next morning i cant engage any gears the pedal is flat! so i have to pump it until there's pressure behind the pedal and then it drives fine.

It does the same if i drive down the motorway i.e. if im driving for a few mins without changing gear the pedal isnt getting pumped so it gradually (but rather quickly) becomes flat and it needs pumping again to change gear.

Im not loosing any fluid at all so im ruling out the slave cylinder, i noticed fluid was seaping out of the brake fluid resevoir cap so i had the system bled and a new cap put on. The pedal was fine for 4 days now its back to its old self.

Its had a new master cylinder installed twice, each by the previous owners but the fluid resevoir is the origional one. Anyone come across this problem before? Could it be the brake fluid resevoir even tho im not loosing fluid?

Cheers
John

Very strange. My Audi's the same. Mine went there a month or two ago but i couldnt pump it to get it working, just didnt work at all. One of my pipes had gone and the way the mechanic checked to see what was wrong was by moving the pedal up and down to see if anything was squirting out anywhere.

As I say mine wouldnt work at all, but you could try that method. Just get a mate to pump it while you watch the engine bay.

Hmm thanks Ricky, ill get a mate to pump the pedal and watch but im not loosing any fluid.

Im thinking the system just insnt sealed and air is being drawn in from somewhere, but where??? Seals around brake fluid cap? i might stick some plumbers tape around the threads and see if it makes a difference.

Im open to any suggestions mate, worth a try

Ah thats the problem with the listening, i need the car to be running to pump the pedal and once running its too loud to listen for leaks.

So.....i run it pump like buggery then knock the ignition off and the bloody vacumes are going and they make a hissing noise i cant win.
