first you need to know if it is to lean or if the car is lying.
If it is too lean you need to find out why its too lean!

it shuffs out black smoke when revved and the exhaust tip is black
and spark plugs are abit sutty to

tbh that all suggests its running rich!
So as i said first thing would be to get the emissions tested to see if its running rich or lean assuming its running rich which the above implies, then its likely its a faulty lambda sensor which thinks it is running lean when it isnt and telling the vehicle to richen the mixture up!

I agree, sounds like a lambda problem

have just fitted a new ntk lamber sensor, its fitted in one of the outlets on my manifold at the moment (have got a 4 into 1 exhaust manifold) could this be the reason?

nope shouldnt cause it! Any air leaks between manifold and head if its had a new manifold as that would trick the lambda!

manifold is fine no leaks, have got a de-cat, but that shouldnt cause it. am moving the lamber to where the manifold joins the cat so it reads all four pipes and not just the one.
it has been very heavy on juice aswell.

heavy on juice is because its running rich.
Did you fit the new ambda to cure this problem or previously?

my old lamber sensor came into contact with water which fried my engine loom. fitted another loom but had to use the car for about 3 weeks without a lamber sensor. got my new one the other day and fitted it (to fit it where the manifold meets the cat i need to trace the wires back to the bulk head and re-thread them down threw the back of the engine) only thing i noticed when i got the new lamber was theres only one wire not 3, but apparently they dont do a 3 wire lamber for any corsa engine now, only the nove gsi/gte and the 2ltr's
i fitted the de-cat cus the cat overheated when i didnt have a lamber sensor.

wires shouldn't matter 3 wire is just heated yours isn't!
Don't know what to suggest, really needs the emissions checking to see how it is actually running, then scope the lambda to see what the sensor is actually reading.
I must admit i'm not a fan of ngk lambdas and have had problems with them in the past so don't dismiss it to hastily!

my last lamber had 3 wires. its not a ntk one its a bosch (my mistake)
wont the emmisions be out as ive got a de-cat?
i have got a small air leak somewhere that im goin to try and find 2morrow

is the lambda sensor fitted after the collector (where the 4 branches join) or in 1 of the single branches?

My old one had the lambda sensor on branch 2 so was only really getting a reading from cylinder 2.
But on the gas tester it still ran a lambda value of 0.97 so i don't think this is the problem.

if its on one of the single brances then you will get the problem.. had a 4-1 on mine and it would not pass an imisions test. put the old manifold back on and the problems go... always need to get a manifold that has the lambda/hego sensor in a collection point where all the gasses meat not just from one cylinder.

hmmm maybe i got away with it because number 2 cylinder was a good'un

I have had several cars in with lambda sensors in an individual primary and never had a problem.
Would only cause a problem if there was a problem on that cylinder which should still show up if the lambda sensor was in or after the collector! Being in the primary would just make it appear worse to the ecu!

having the lambda in 1 cyliynder primary is a bad idea. get a lambda boss put in around 3-6" from the collector.

it is now fitted just past the collector, it has started to idle low when ticking over and feels like its goin to stall.
took the throttle body off yesterday as the gasket was damaged and sucking in air. sorted that out but now i have the problem with it ticking over.
have also swopped ecu's as i think the one i had fitted was damaged when my wiring loom melted.
