Because it's cast like that, it's not painted black with silver stickers on - it's a proper cast item - all the lettering and stripes are raised etc etc and they are also worth a decent amount of money along with the Irmy airbox for the Nova Sports

QUOTE=Dec.;3704061]Filled the gearbox with transmission fluid this morning and when turning the engine over to prime the oil pump heard a rattle coming from the clutch area?! taking the inspection cover off revealed nothing, so it looked like whatever was rattling was behind the drive plate, at first we thought a foreign body may have been logged in the clutch on assembly, but after removing the clutch it appeared a flywheel bolt head had sheard off :eek:
A quick trip to Vauxhall before the parts dept closed and 6 new flywheel bolts were bought and replaced (didn't want to take a chance that others maybe weak!) Then fitted the clutch back up and all appears well.
Managed to rebuild the alternator, pressing out the main bearing and packing with fresh grease, cleaning the brush contacts and giving an general service Alternator fits in nice, just need to source a suitable belt.
We then concentrated on the 2 heater hoses around the back of the engine, the Sport kit came with 2 alternate heater hoses (real Sport nerds will be able to tell you what they were original designed for as they were taken from the Vauxhall parts bin) It's impossibly tight around the back of the carbs and the hoses need to be spot-on to avoid chaffing on the pertruding metal work.
We made a start on the fuel hoses, another job which is not straight forward because of the varitation of 1/4" and 5/16" fittings, lucking 1/4" hose streches to both. Dad got me some beautiful mini jubilee clips (check 'em out!) Also fitted the choke cable, cutting the recommended 46cm as stated in the Sport kit fitting guide
Here are a couple of quick pics...
Also got these plates made up by http://www.framptons.net, I had the original dealer stamp (complete with period phone number) added to the bottom of the plate to match the dealer sticker on the rear window. I wanted the old style numbering (slightly wider than the new ones) but they could not do then with the graphics at the bottom, so what they done was use the new style letters and strech them to the size of the old style letters. They look great apart for the style of the '5' is wrong, but I'm not that fussed. The protective film has not been removed in the pics....

[QUOTE=Dec.;3704361]Gave PV a miss today as Billing is looming and I still have many jobs to sort on the Sport!!
Started of by making a bracket for the fuel lines, dad's pretty handy with the stainless....
Whilst he was doing that I set about fitting the plastic heater motor cover, wiper linkages and wipers (both of which were treated to a lick of silver and satin black.) New wipers blade n' all.
Nice tidy battery area...
We then fitted the dizzy, vacuum hoses (complete with stainless brackets on top of the carbs ) and a few other bits. I can't complete the fuel lines as I'm waiting for another 'T' piece....
Exhaust manifold should be back next week, and I have new manifold studs on order. Need to do the servo hose and finish the coolant hoses, fit rad etc...
...I'm off for a beer now

[QUOTE=Dec.;3710235]It was an exhausting day yesterday...
In the week I managed to clean/fit the washer bottle and header tank, I also repainted and fitted the coil.
Started off by getting the car as high off the ground as possible, and got the exhaust system ready for fitting. Managed to acquire a new steel insert thingy that goes between the manifold and the rest of the system, as well as all new hangers, 'U' clips and bolts/springs.
The system had to be fitted wearing gloves to avoid marking the VHT paint, sad I know lmao
Here are a few pics:
Also managed to get the brakes bled, good days work all round.... I'm off to Bromley Pageant today so no more progress till next weekend

ooft, whats he going to use for a filter though? i imagine a bit fat pipercross/ram air would ruin the original look of the car
