i have an E16SE engine that has kent cams, kent pulleys, all new gaskets, new water pump and polished inlet.

unfortunately thats about as far as ive got with it. ive got a list of things i want doing to it but i need to know rough prices before i start dismantling the engine thats in my car at the moment.

firstly i want these things done to it:
1mm bigger inlet and exhaust valves
needs an inlet manifold bolt hole re-threading
fitted and running
belts
alternator
coil
dizzy
racing clutch
belt tensioners

now i know i can fit it myself but i dont have the equipment to time it properly seeing as it now has an aftermarket pulley and i cant be bothered to do it.

i have a donor engine that i can take the hoses, bolts, etc off and i have the loom and ecu.

i would like to know what rough prices would i be looking at to get them done at a professional engine rebuilders??

any input would be great even if its only a rough price.

oh yeah and with all that done to it plus a 4-2-1 manifold and straight through anyone got a clue of roughly how much break i would be at?

cheers

you wont need the +1mm valves.

i can do a ported/polished head, with headset inc, new stem seals, ready to bolt back on for £170(just doing a 2nd one for a mate so can get pics in next week or so) a lad was selling a head on PNG claiming it cost £400!

what cam are you using? and are you staying on stock injection or cabrs/tbs.

if wana give me a buzz - 07807 040522 phil, then can come up with a solution if want? easier to talk thats all

head work is usually about £500-600 for a reasonable head.
the total will be about £1000 or abouts

dont know where your getting your prices from £600-£1000? or what do you get for that money?

think i should start charging more for mine!!

as said for your spec, stock valved, valve seats cut, valves re-cut, stem seals, built up, skimmed inc headset match ported to the gaskets supplied. guides cut back into ports £170 + postage obv.

can send pics of previous work from xe/let head, cosworth, small block xe, rover k series/turbo heads, etc etc

Just to join in with the fun.
heres what the prices for a C20LET head

140 - 1mm oversided Valves
100 - Double Valve Springs
80 - Bronze Valve Guilds
70 - Uprated Caps and springs seats
250 - Port and polish (an thats VERY CHEAP)
250 (rought price) - All normal machine/work on head (fitting guides, little skim etc)
Total - 890

Once i finish me head for the twin engine i will be between 1000-1200

Look into who is doing the head work mate aswell make sure its not just a man with a dremal who is just polishing/cutting here and there. As there is an art to a head and air flow, all should be done on a flow bench as you can loose power from a badly ported head.

As for the list of work you saying do you need to stick with the E16SE as for power for your pound i would just change for a bigger engine.

cheap beardy - ive just priced a head up for 2 lads. one for a cav for track car and one for a lad for TOTB next year. £1991.40 inc my work.

heres prices for the said heads - as per rick draper, chip(abliet cams) think gav also, and a few other lads

beardy - what make are your valves, springs, caps? just very cheap even if you can get discount.

Guides (colisbro bronze QED) £131.60
+1mm Valves QED £253.80
Lifters and shims - £270 steveboyslim
Dual springs/steel caps £220 steveboyslim
Piper turbo grind cams £380 steveboyslim
Stem seals £32 steveboyslim
Piper verniers £170

Machining:
Portbored inlets £100
guides fitted 3angle seats £104
skim £30

Match ported inlets/exhaust ports, work radius's, cut back guides into ports, valves lapped in, head built, chamber work £200
shimming lifters £100

ive seen heads done by 'pro' engine builders/companies, and they have been shocking, very poor work and charging a fortune.

thanks for all the help.

im running kent cams and pulleys think its 263 degree or something like that cant remember off the top of my head though.

i was looking at 2 litres but i wanted something slightly different but when you price up buying the redtop, buying the conversion kit, strengthening plates, brakes, fuel pump, etc it comes close to £1500 for a decent set up and thats only at standard power.

hopefully with that work done to it im expecting it to be running close to the power if not more of a redtop anyway.

im going to go down to the local engine tuners and get it priced up properly think it should be close to £500ish

not all engine tuners are any good doing headwork or may want to do it.

very time consuming job, and if they charged you buy the hour for a decent ported head you'd be looking at £400just for the porting more than likely.

you havent seemed to priced xe conversion up that well:

running XE, box, loom, ecu £350ish
mounts £90
shafts corsa gsi + inners if cant get a ready to fit set £100-120(inc cost of cv's) or source 2nd hand set of uprated ones.

play with the exhaust to fit.

looking at £800-900 tops

what car have you got btw? nova or corsa?

ye i understand that but cams valves valve seats etc have all been redone so that not to much of a problem and if the bigger valves doesnt really do alot ill just leave it.

ye thats about the price i came up with for a redtop conversion but thats for the bog standard bits i dont really like to go for bog standard id prefer low mileage engine new shafts new mounts just so i know im not risking it blowing up anytime soon lol

ive got a corsa at the minute
