Got a head gasket to do tomorrow on a X16XE and dont fancy trying to find the socket that fits it so were going to buy one.
E18 rings a bell with me, does that sound about right?

It's not for the X16XE. I've got one in my garage right now in bits and it took me all of 2 secs to double check that it's the E22. It's also the same size on the C20XE engine.
Not E18!

Yeah was an E18 after all, luckily managed to find the socket though.
2 snapped bolt heads can put a damper on ones day though

Not E18!
Fail.
C20XE/LET is an E20. You can bodge it with a 16mm spanner though.

I use the nearest imperial size and find it's a bit of a tighter fit

Hence the 'bodge it'
I would only use it for turning over, fuck trying to get it FT with a ring spanner!

Luke, be honest. You didn't fit a headgasket, you used the old one as a template on a Shreddies box...

Same here, have only ever turned it over.
Where can you get 1/2" drive torx/star sockets? Halfords do them?

That's what I've found mate, don't know what the fascination with 3/8" is.
1/2" FTW, I'll have a look at that Vaux Lad.
