The C20XE adheres to EC 91/441/EEC, US ' 83

Where as the X20XE would ahve to adhere to EC 91/441/EEC, stage 2#
# = Stricter limits for ca.1996

It is all about the exhaust emission unit

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

It is a different engine and as such is made from differing parts, but your question was what is the difference between the two engine codes.

Surely the answer to that would just be a 'C'?

As said in another thread on the go, I've heard that the C is to do with the fact that a c20xe has a cat and a 20xe doesn't.

The early cranks are stronger as well iirc and coscast heads only came on 20xe's afaik.

He doesn't mention a 20XE.

If we are being pedantic, there wasn't an X20XE, it was an X20XEV.

Basically, they share the same block, but have a different head and a load of other bits, mainly to meet the stricter emission checks and also to save cost.

Early 20xe engines are considered best as they used superior components and a proportion had a head designed and built by cosworth. Due to the high cost of these heads, GM had them made cheaper but slightly less efficient.

You can get all this info off google really so no point me waffling on.

Sorry, thought I'd read c20xe and 20xe.

And the biggest difference then is that the x20xev is an ecowreck, whereas the c20xe is a good engine.

Yes, But better still would be a 20XE with coscast head. But they are like rocking horse shit these days.

Pus, most of the XE's out there are getting tired now so will need a bit of cash throwing at them.
