Can anyone give me a valid reason why the ignition live wire decided that it would melt/go on fire when I took the XE out for it's first test drive?

Do you think it was a short circuit, or just simply the wrong gauge of wire - if so...

What gauge wire should be used for this?

If I remember correctly its just an ignition switch wire so doesn't need to be thick. I'd go for short circuiting.

Yeah, thanks - mate just phoned and said there was a wire off the +ve terminal touching the battery tray

Sounds like your wiring was done well More to the point how was the test drive?

Haha, nah - the cab filled with smoke, I shat my pants and rugged on the handbrake and jumped out whilst the car was still moving
