Quick question the 1.0L 12V if the chain slips or breaks will it damage the valves or is it a non interference engine, also is it hard to replace the timing chain.

im no expert..
But yes i believe it will damage the valves and just better to change engine if so.
Its an expensive job to change timing belt garage wise. you need certain tools to do it. you sure the timing belt needs replacing though?- not any other linked problem?

I've never heard of a chain breaking before :/
I thought it was about 100k before they changed.
Also they make whinging, rattle like fuck normally on the way out?
But if it times the engine, and goes out of time, you have bent valves.

mine was on 100k and rattled more than a smackhead going cold turkey!
i sold the car before it died
if the chain does go then its new engine time as it will ruin the valves and pistons

There used to be a quick fix for attached a new chain to the old and threading it through. But the kits are no longer available. This also didn't replace the rollers or tensioners.
Now it's a case of replacing the whole lot, which means side off the engine jobby. In a normal, 1-man-band type garage it'll set you back about £400.
Generally speaking the chains don't need replacing. They are prone to making a lot of noise.
